the I-401 was a SenToku-class submarine
and this the most formidable pre-nuclear submarine that have ever sailed the oceans (it carried two planes ,does that count as underwater carrier?)
3 planes Seiran dive bomber and Yes it was Worlds firs Sub-carriern ( well I-53 If I'm not wrong could have 1 recon plane mounted on the hull, but Sentoku class waqs 1st to carry 3 planes in hangar. I love this manga and the anime! ^^,
