Dangan Ronpa update - DREditor 0.0.3

DR translation update:

  • Fixed a lot of typos, such as Celestia's and Sakura's last names. The funny thing is that I apparently got Sakura's last name right in some art assets, but felt like spelling her name wrong in other places.
  • Kept "super" as the translation for "超高校級". I feel like "super high-school level" implies that there's a "super high school", rather than conveying "on a level beyond high school", which is what the phrase is intended to mean.
  • Started on chapter 1, but didn't get much done yet.

DREditor update (0.0.3):

  • Fixed Celestia's and Sakura's last names, though DREditor should still work with JS files with incorrect names.
  • Added a manual.

  1. I hope there'll be some way to edit trial minigames.

    1. I think I know how to edit the Anagram game, but I haven't tested it yet.

    2. Sound like a bit good news to me.

  2. I'm wondering for the files like "e01_001_007_lin.js" is the code generated around the dialogue automatically for you or do you have to make code for each line? The coding is easy enough to understand, but so tedious to do this for thousands of lines of dialog. If it's done automatically for you, then translating this game is pretty much a snap by just translating the lines and making sure they fit in the space limit and make sense. Makes me wish I could understand Japanese as I could do it myself even.

    1. What do you mean? You just need to edit the string arguments to "showLine", and maybe duplicate/delete a few lines here and there.

    2. I thought that you would have to be Chihiro to do a project like this, writing up code and doing advanced hackery things. Now it seems it's just a matter of finding the JS files, translating the Japanese to English and applying a patch to override the main program. It seems that one could even make a fanfic DR game from this. It's impressive and looks like fun to translate.

Anyway, I saw a few times where you decided not to use a dialog line. Like line 44 in e00_006_007. Not condemning, but curious. Are these hard to translate lines or just complete rubbish? I online translated a few and they seem to be mostly the line before, but said a little differently.

    3. Well, for a fan game, I would need to figure how event CGs work, because CGs have a different code system.

Most of the time I decide to not use lines because I combined it with another line. In that case I combined it with line 43, though maybe I shouldn't have.

    4. Combining lines makes sense. And it seems that you can translate sentences without being compromised for space as well. By reading how Corpse Party PSP was translated on the GameFaqs forum, I thought you would be limited in what you could do and you would have to make heavy translation edits.

Anyway, I honestly could not figure out how to make all those files into a new ISO to check the new updates out, so I was messing around with the files and I had discovered that the JS files has all those lines of dialog. They are actually really easier to proof read than to go though the game checking for any mistakes. I did not see any mistakes in the updates.

I'm wondering if you came across the list of gashapon ball items yet. If so, which file they are under? I'm extremely curious as I've never seen a full list of those and I'd like to speculate which ones pleases which person. I assume you'll be translating them soon as they are about to appear in the game fairly soon.

  4. Is there a way to extract the japanese script from the game to just read? Or would you know where to find a script someone has written for it somewhere?

  8. It's great that you're doing this!

How do you plan to translate the trials, though? Seeing how the exact shape and positioning of the subtitles is a major gameplay element, it seems like that would be impossible to preserve when translated...
