I'd just like to say that I'm the kind of person who ignores most of what I don't like instead of seeking confrontation. That means that if I never replied to your mail, then I probably didn't like it. It's nothing personal. Frequently, I just get too frustrated at the content of the mail to answer lucidly. However, one thing that I am no longer able to ignore is how many people ask me about Pokemon Special.

I guess this is expected since the gap between volume 39 and 40 is somewhat exceptional, and I never really openly addressed it. But let me just say,

FYI, you guys will be $4.08 in the red by the end of next month: $25 for the last issue of Sho4, $15 for CCI 2012-02 (released in December), $15 for CCI 2012-03 (released a few days ago), $15 for CCI 2012-04 (releases in the end of February), and $15 for PF 2012-02 (released in December). No, older issues are not an option.

Finally, to those who asked me about HGSS,

Well, I guess this is understandable, but for the record: Pokemon Special is not serialized normally. There were only 5 Platinum chapters and 14 HGSS chapters in the magazines; the rest are being added on to the volumes. Even if I spend hundreds of dollars to get the HGSS chapters, I'll still only get about a quarter of the volumes, so just fucking wait for the volumes.

Again, this is nothing personal. Fuck you and have a nice day.

Eureka Seven AO ch 1

Before anyone gets hurt, I'd just like to say that I'm dropping this as soon as the anime starts airing as well.

This chapter should be pretty self-explanatory if you've watched the original. One thing that I didn't mention was that most of the characters have a light Okinawan accent, including Eu-er, Ao's mom for some reason. Someone on /a/ suggested that I should replace it with a Jamaican accent, which is a brilliant idea, but I eventually concluded that the original accent here was too light for me to apply something like an Jamaican accent successfully. If I ever translate an Okinawan with a heavy accent, then I'll know what to do.

• Updated Comic Rush to work with its new "Multilingual Comic System." Sadly, I couldn't find any examples of translated manga on the Comic Rush site. Also, I removed the login stuff for it, since buyers essentially just pay for the URL to the item. Just give it the URL with the "csa-platform.jp" domain.

Someone Should Fucking Pick This Up, But That Someone Isn't Me, Part 2: Hina Matsuri

I didn't think this "blog series" thing through, so I didn't have enough material until I had to time to organize my wish lists until last week.

Part 2: Hina Matsuri
WTF Is This: Let's start with Usagi Drop. Replace Daikichi with a member of the yakuza, Rin with a middle-school esper who's completely unrelated to the main character (oh wait), and the heartwarming drama with incredibly funny hijinks, and you get Hina Matsuri.

The story starts with Hina teleporting into Nitta's apartment and forcing him to let her stay (or else she'll smash his expensive pots). The combination works a lot better than one would expect; it mixes things up between Nitta's duties as a yakuza commander and Hina's school life. Each chapter starts from a fairly reasonably point, such as Hina going to school, and strays farther and farther with each gag, eventually resulting in a "WTF Am I Reading" ending.

Why I Didn't Pick It Up: It just didn't make the cut for my current, top-tier wish list. That doesn't mean that it's bad by any means. I know that I have a bias towards plot-driven stuff, so those who prefer slice of life might have a different opinion on this.

Why You Should Pick This Up: The gags are really great. The bizarre combination of the yakuza father and the telekinetic daughter makes for fresh comedy. Personally, I think that the delinquent/yakuza category of manga is too stagnant, so this manga is a really fun breath of fresh air.

Anyway, I wish that there will be more chapters featuring this owl. Also, Nakua's real name turns out to be Atlach-Nacha (blame my ignorance on Cthluthu lore), but I'll keep it as Nakua since the author seems to have intentionally "Japanese-fied" her name to turn her into a local deity.

My "Plan B" is starting to come together nicely. I should be able to get scans of both CoroCoro Ichiban and Pokemon Fan at about $270 / year, which is what we spent last year on Sho4.

Young Ace

Due to new circumstances, I might stop scanning soon. I'll tell you two issues in advance if that happens, though.

Fun fact about the first story: one of the hypotheses proposed as a solution to the Fermi paradox states that advanced civilizations inevitably abandon technology and interstellar colonization to develop their spirituality, which is why we haven't met any ETs. I like the zoo hypothesis more, though (see Level E).
