I wish there was a chapter or two showing Black, Bianca and Cheren getting their starter Pokemon (or in Black's case, third pokemon) and also Black getting his first badge. But you just take your time anyway :D

JB2448 has scans of the Viz comics, which contain those specific chapters (Volume one has them choosing their starters, and in Volume two has the Striaton gym match).
